Our Stour

Our Stour is a community project all about enjoying and improving the rivers and streams of the Stour Valley.

The project is bringing real benefits for local people, river environments, and wildlife in the Stour Catchment.

Our Stour volunteers are getting involved in hands-on improvements to river habitats, monitoring riverside land and citizen science surveys. There are opportunities for training towards new skills, and educational activities for schools and community groups.

Volunteers litter picking in a river

Our Stour is made up of four programmes:

RIVER WARDENS
Play an important role in improving your local river, by becoming a volunteer River Warden. You’ll be given your own stretch of river to monitor.

AQUALAB
AquaLab is our river based education programme for schools and community groups within the Stour Catchment.

RIVER CLEANS

Help us with our mission to clean up the Stour! Join in with regular river cleans across the Stour Catchment. We have removed the equivalent of over 500 bags of rubbish in the last two years alone!

RIVERFLY SURVEYS

Help us monitor the health of the watercourse within the Stour Catchment through monthly riverfly surveys.

The following programmes were part of Our Stour but have now ended:

LANDOWNER WORKSHOPS

We provided workshops advising landowners on land management to protect rivers.

RIVERS IN FOCUS

A programme of community events and guided walks that involved film, photography and rivers.

FLOW FILM

An exciting community project where young people and adults used film-making to explore the rivers on their doorstep.
