Loudon Wood award and recognition

The KSCP were proud to receive an award from The Veolia Environmental Trust for Transforming Play.

Loudon Wood, in Godinton, Ashford contains a small relic of ancient woodland within which there is a children’s play area. KSCP worked with the residents of Loudon Wood through their management company, Kent Gateway Block Management (KGBM) and children from Godinton Primary School to design and create a new natural play area. Successful funding from Veolia supported the project which involved natural play equipment, new woodland pathways and reintroduction of woodland coppicing to increase light levels and woodland wild flowers.

The award ceremony took place in the House of Lords. It was a memorable day and the KSCP are pleased to have been part of such a great community project.

The KSCP then met with year 6 children from Godinton Primary in Loudon Wood on Monday 4th July to thank them for their major role in obtaining grant funding towards the restoration of the Loudon Wood play area and surrounding woodland habitat. Guests on the day included Deputy Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, Clive Pearman, Countryside Partnerships Manager, Kate Phillips and Ashford Borough Councillor Jessamy Blanford. Loudon Wood director Graham Crick and Management company, Kent Gateway Block Management supported the project which saw the transformation of a dark, fenced and graffitid play area into a bright and welcoming community woodland play-space. The Veolia Environmental Trust grant funded the work with match funding provided through the Loudon Wood management committee.
