End of the ‘Super Kingdom’.

Last week, King’s Wood saw the fall of its ‘Super Kingdom’. This was a piece created by London Fieldworks in 2008. The three pieces which make up this work, are utopian visions of animal show homes’ referring to places of despots – Mussolini’s ‘Palazzo della Civilta Italiana’ , Rome ; Stalin’s ‘Palac Kultury i Nauki’, Warsaw; and Ceausescu’s ‘Casa Poporuliu’, Bucharest.

Super Kingdom was an iconic creation but it had deteriorated beyond repair.

The decommissioning of Super Kingdom was a difficult, but necessary decision,- even though many will be sad to see the sculptures gone. A big empty space remains where there was once a great empire, but this may be the opportunity for new work to develop…so watch this space!
