Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership

For our first #StourSaturday location we are focusing on the Stour at Sandwich; the last town the river passes through before heading out to sea at Pegwell Bay.
Sandwich was once a major port and is still recognised as one of the Cinque Ports. However, due to the disappearance of the Wantsum Channel the town now lies 2 miles inland. The river is tidal at Sandwich meaning at low tide you may see wading birds sifting through the mud banks for and on a high tides you may be lucky enough to spot a seal commuting up river from Pegwell Bay! You can explore the River Stour in and around Sandwich by following parts of the Stour Valley Walk or Saxon Shore Way as well as many other public footpaths.

#StourSaturday
Today we are launching new initiative called Stour Saturday.
Every Saturday we will share information and images of the beautiful River Stour and its wildlife.
The Great Stour starts in Lenham and eventually heads out to sea at Pegwell Bay and has many tributaries along the way, meaning there are miles and miles of river habitat to explore.
Not only will KSCP staff be sharing details on some of their favourite spots along the course and wildlife but we would love to see your photos and hear about your favourite locations so please tag us and use the hashtag #stoursaturday so we pick them up.
