DEFRA’s new ‘Higher Level Stewardship’ (HLS) scheme

The Rural Development Service (RDS) in Kent are currently seeking applications for DEFRA’s new Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) scheme. RDS is keen to generate interest in HLS and has significant funds available to help farmers and landowners meet government’ environmental targets. They are looking for high quality applications, supported with a Farm Environment Plan (FEP). Agreements operate on a quarterly start date basis. Free advice and support for potential applicants is available from RDS advisers at Wye. Monthly one-to-one appointments are also available to discuss potential applications, and take place at Wye. If you would like more information or to book a place, please contact Margaret Rulton on 0118 939 2347.

The KSCP are able to write HLS applications and carry out FEPs on behalf of farmers and landowners. Under the old Countryside Stewardship Scheme the KSCP assisted on over 50% of agreements in the Stour Valley.
