ACCESS

Countryside Stewardship access areas on website

Did you know that the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) publishes a list with maps of areas that have an access agreement through Countryside Stewardship. So if you would like to find out if you have an area near you visit www.defra.gov.uk/rural/publicaccess.

  Winkling your Way

Canterbury City Council with a little encouragement from KSCP and other partners has carried out a complete overhaul of signage on the Crab and Winkle Way. The area around the university still needs to be completed but otherwise there should be no more excuses for getting lost!

  Safe routes to schools

Did you know that 90% of children in Denmark cycle to school and that the figure in the UK is 2%! Also a greater percentage of UK children have bikes than ever before. There are perhaps some obvious reasons such as the topography of the two countries that goes some way to explain the marked difference but surely not a 88% difference. The government and highways authorities could certainly do a lot more to provide safer routes to schools.
