ENVIRONMENTAL ARTS

  It’s art of course!

Those of you who walk and cycle the Crab and Winkle Way in Whitstable and have wondered what the construction near the railway bridge is all about - it’s art of course! Rob Smith an ex student of Kent Institute of Art and Design (KIAD) at Canterbury was commissioned to produce the piece by the Crab and Winkle Way Working Group. He describes it as "Superdream" using the Moire Fringe Effect – two sets of lines, one constructed in front of another giving the impression of apparent movement, when the spectator moves in front of the piece. The sculpture is constructed from local chestnut poles and motorcycle wheels. It is the seventh piece of art to be commissioned along the route. All of the work has been supported by Brett and other sponsors.
