  Wonderful Woodcarving

Ashford North Youth Centre and the Ashford Green Corridor Project have teamed up to decorate a 400-year-old turkey oak with carvings of wildlife found in the Green Corridor. Ashford Borough Council felled the massive piece of magnificent timber in 2005. It was previously residing in the Bybrook area of the town and is now providing rustic seating at Singleton Lake carpark. Local artist Martin Brockman created the design for the seating with the assistance of chainsaw specialist Mark Sidders.

Ashford North Youth Centre has also taken part in the project by carving designs into the timber. Local wildlife such as butterflies and reptiles inspired their designs. Ashford Green Corridor Rosemary Hoare Ashford Green Corridor Officer said "this is recyling at its best, the oak has provided a brilliant opportunity to improve the carpark and has also encouraged young people to learn new skills and make a positive contribution to the area". A range of Free Events are taking place in the Green Corridor - listings are avaliable at www.ashfordgreencorridor.org.uk
