Volunteers
inject new life into woodland
Volunteers
from the Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership have been busy working
alongside Canterbury City Council to inject a new lease of life into
Curtis
Wood
Park
, near
Herne
. The volunteers have been hard at work opening up trails, waymarking a
new circular path and installing some beautiful display panels around the
site.
The
volunteers, who meet every Thursday in
Canterbury
, have been working for more than 20 years to improve the Kentish
countryside for wildlife and people.
“You
feel a real sense of achievement when you see a task to completion,”
said recent recruit Jenny Cotterill. “The boards look brilliant and
hopefully will be enjoyed by local people and visitors to the site for
many years.
Curtis
Wood
Park
is a great place to visit; located just outside of
Herne
village it is comprised of woodland, meadow and scrub habitats alongside a
large pond. In the spring, the woodland floor is carpeted with bluebells
and wood anemones whilst in the summer the long grass and wildflowers of
the meadow teems with butterflies. A
number of different varieties of orchid can also be found growing within
the site.
