AMAZING ALDERBEDS
Volunteers from the Kentish Stour
Countryside Project have been carrying out some conservation work at
Charing Alderbeds, Site of Nature Conservation Interest, in recent weeks.
With the help of Rail Link Countryside Iniative (RLCI) funding and the
hard work of volunteers the 2.6 hectare site has been transformed into a
wildlife haven for all to enjoy. The work carried out includes fencing,
kissing gate and bollard installation, all of which are aimed at improving
access around the site. The Kentish Stour Countryside Project has also run
several successful environmental education activities with local children.
The next stage for the site is the
installation of a 250 metre boardwalk through the wet woodland. Jason
Adams of the Kentish Stour Countryside Project says " The work that
has been completed and that which is ensuing at Charing will enable
everybody from the local community to visit this beautiful spot and I
would like to thank all of our volunteers for their hard work and
dedication".
