Environmental management day at the Spinney
in Ashford
Volunteers from the Kentish Stour Countryside Project
and from the SWANEG group turned out in force last week to help carry out
management tasks at the Spinney and near the Swan Centre off New Town
Road. The combined workforce of fifteen volunteers had a number of tasks
to carry out. The site was cleared of rubbish and some trees were cut down
to allow light into the area so creating small glades. The small glades
will add diversity to the wildlife habitat and more wildflowers should
appear. Foxgloves and blue bells were planted and some very big holes that
had appeared on the path were filled in. With so many people it didn’t
take long to finish the work.
Later in the day a hedge that was planted near Cudworth
Road a couple of years ago was gapped up as some of the plants had died.
Sadly some of the hedge plants appeared to have been deliberatley
destroyed.
Harri Goldsmith from the Kentish Stour Countryside
Project said 'a good day was had by all and we achieved a lot of work'.
