Volunteers help to restore Parkland

Volunteers from the Kentish Stour Countryside Project were out in force last week building tree guards at Godinton Park. The Parkland is being restored by planting trees that will hopefully grow on to be magnificant specimens like some of the oaks you can see today in the Park. However, it will take at least 100 years for the trees to become mighty specimins. The tree guard is made of chestnut stakes and chestnut paling. Jon Shelton form the Kentish Stour Countryside Project says 'over the last six years or so, a few different tree guard designs have been tried out with changes due to changing livestock and ease of weed control, but after all this time the prefect tree guard design has been reached...until next time!'

Over the last year volunteers have also planted hegdrows, cleared invasive laurel and improved the river habitat for fish in Godinton Park.

Volunteer tasks in the Ashford area are carried out every Wednesday. If you are interested in volunteering or would like any more information about the KSCP contact us.
