Woody
Wonders in Buxford Meadow
This delightful meadow area, with its pond and wet woodland nearby, was a
great setting for a bit of woody business. Local
woodsman and craftsman Martin Brockman provided the tools, material and
expertise to help a whole forest of children make their bird out of wood.
Kentish Stour Countryside Officer Debbie Adams also explained to
the children about the importance of these kinds of wild spaces for a
whole variety of wildlife and for all the people young and old, who would
like to enjoy the peace and quiet that they offer.
Everyone had a thoroughly fantastic and fruitful time and the
children proudly carried home their own little masterpiece.
KSCP works with Ashford Borough Council and other partners to protect,
enhance and improve wildlife habitat areas in the green spaces running
through Ashford beside the Great Stour and
East Stour
rivers. These areas link up and are collectively known as the Ashford
Green Corridor. This free
event was the sixth in a series of children’s activities that are taking
place in the Ashford Green Corridor during the summer holidays. Each event
is run by a local artist or expert, and is designed so that children have
fun learning about the wildlife on their doorstep.
