Bowens
Field Mini Sculptures
Close to the cycle path and Victoria Park is a little bit of wetland known
as Bowens Field. There is a
large pond, reed beds and lots of wild planting to help enhance this
wetland area. On Thursday 20th
August, local artist and craftsman Martin Brockman gave a small workshop
on how to make mini sculptures using the natural materials that can be
found in this kind of wildlife area. The
children had a lot of fun creating their own mini-sculpture, or not so
mini-sculptures,. At the same time as learning some skills about working
with wood and about the importance of wetlands for a whole host of insects
and other wildlife creatures, not to mention for the people and town of
Ashford
.
KSCP works with Ashford Borough Council and other partners to protect,
enhance and improve wildlife habitat areas in the green spaces running
through Ashford beside the Great Stour and
East Stour
rivers. These areas link up and are collectively known as the Ashford
Green Corridor. This free
event was the fifth in a series of children’s activities that are taking
place in the Ashford Green Corridor during the summer holidays. Each event
is run by a local artist or expert, and is designed so that children have
fun learning about the wildlife on their doorstep.
