Apply
now for your Free Trees
Individuals
and/or organisations in the Ashford,
Canterbury
and Thanet districts can now apply for up to 25 native trees. The Kentish
Stour Countryside Partnership has been able to expand the Free Tree Scheme
in 2009 with funding from Network Rail, Ashford Borough Council, Kent
County Council,
Canterbury City Council and Thanet District Council . The
scheme is part of
Kent
wide initiative by Kent County Council.
Chris Bowley,
Business Support Manager for Network Rail said ‘Network Rail is
delighted to support the Free Tree Scheme. To maintain safe railway lines
we are required to remove vegetation. However, the scheme helps to ensure
that we stay committed to our environmental responsibility by actively
supporting the planting of trees.’
There are 20 native trees and shrubs
species to choose from and guidance on the best trees for the locality.
Closing date is 31 October 2009. All the successful applicants have to do
is to collect small saplings, plant them and care for them as they grow.
