Ashford Warren
The KSCP regularly worked on this Borough Council owned
site from 1993 and was instrumental in securing sponsorship from Lion
Insulation Ltd to carry out various projects. The KSCP started Ashford
Warren Restoration Day in May 1996 and this has continued ever since.
Ashford Conservation Volunteers and the Ashford Borough Council
Countryside Officer now look after the site.

In 1998 three ponds and a channel were
created in the field next to the Warren. The main pond was dug out in 1996
and a sluice installed in 1997. The pond has the uncommon water violet,
and on the nearby acid grassland the equally uncommon plant bird’s foot
can be found. It is a Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI).
In 1996 400m of wheelchair path and a dipping platform
were constructed by volunteers.

Ashford Rugby Club Field
The KSCP organised the excavation of two shallow shelves
(berms) alongside the River Great Stour measuring 50 by 5m and 60 by 5m in
1995.
Berms add diversity to the river by creating habitat for
aquatic plants and subsequently for invertebrates such as dragonflies, and
nesting birds such as little grebe.

excavated in 1994. KSCP volunteers planted 5700 trees in order to provide
