Downland Cycle Hire not only provides bicycles for hire but can also organise cycling holidays based around Canterbury. Cycling is a green and sustainable method of transport, making very little impact on the environment.

We also carry out repairs, sell bikes and parts and run cycle maintenance courses.

Opening hours: cruises, April - September; floating function/conference room, October - March.

The Grove Ferry was designed and built in 1988 specially for cruising the tidal section of the River Stour. Up to 70 passengers can be carried, with up to 10 in wheelchairs.

The Ferry runs regular public trips lasting 45 - 50 minutes and is also available for private hire. A bar and snacks are available and light refreshments such as ploughmans and cream teas can be organised for pre-booked parties.

The South of England Rare Breeds Centre successfully combines tourism, rare breed preservation and employment and training for disabled people.

Rare and traditional British farm animals are bred in order to preserve them while at the same time providing an interesting tourist attraction and employment opportunity for the disabled some of whom also live at the centre.

The Rare Breeds Centre is registered with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, The South East England Tourist Board and the National Association of Farms for Schools.

In addition to normal opening the Centre hosts school visits, special events and theme days.

Opening hours: Easter until end of September, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays, 2 - 5 pm. Groups at other times by appointment.

This smock mill, dating from 1869, has been restored by Ashford Borough Council. It is the centrepiece of an Industrial Heritage Centre.

When the wind is favourable grinding takes place. There is also a coffee and gift shop.
