  Community Grants

Local Nature Reserves (LNR) Grant. 

Available to the manager(s) of any LNR for innovative schemes which raise the profile and enhance the value of the reserve, provided they obtain Local Authority consent. It covers 25% of project costs - grants between £250 & £5,000. Volunteer time can account for up to 80% of matched funding. Decisions on funding are made in January, June and September. Management Grants

  Biodiversity Grant Scheme. 

Aims to restore and conserve priority species and habitats. Grants do not usually cover more than 50% of project costs with a minimum of £250 and a maximum of £5,000. Again 80% of funding can be matched by volunteer time. Applications should be made 3 months before work starts. Contact English Nature: 01233 812525.
 
  Species Recovery 

A scheme available to anyone who takes positive steps to restore, keep or increase species of flora and fauna which are under threat of extinction or in severe decline. Grants for up to 3 years are made to aid in monitoring species, management costs, communication and publicity. Contact English Nature: 01233 812525.
 
  The Shell Better Britain Community Projects Fund 

Tries to benefit both the environment and the local community with special emphasis on tackling economic issues. An award of up to £2,000 is available monthly. Contact Shell UK: 0121 212 9221.
 
  BT Countryside for All 

Usually between £250 and £1,500, to help disabled people enjoy the countryside. Closing dates for applications are July 31st and October 31st. Contact BT: 0114 270 1668.

 
  Kent Rural Revival 

A community based grant scheme run by Kent County Council aiming to protect rural life throughout Kent. Applications are invited from communities which cover topics such as wildlife protection, traffic reduction, recycling, and the need for village shops and local produce. The "community chest" can cover 50% of costs with a grant of between £500 and £2,500. Contact KCC:  01622 221528.

 
  Heritage Lottery Fund

A grant open to any organisation or individual (not private or commercial concerns) to enhance and extend access to physical heritage including countryside and parks. Minimum project cost is £5000 which must have partnership funding. Contact: 0171 5916000 for a pack.
