Countryside management is an holistic approach to conserving
and enhancing all aspects of the countryside.
It covers many different areas of work:
Managing habitats and conserving wildlife
Enhancing rural landscapes
Working with local communities and supporting the rural
economy
Educating people about the countryside
Working with landowners to enhance habitats and landscapes
Encouraging access to the countryside, countryside
recreation and green tourism, where appropriate
Nature conservation is a major objective of countryside
management, achieved through working not just within nature reserves
but in the 'wider countryside'.
Local communities are involved wherever possible, which
is why volunteering is such a mainstay of countryside management.
Balancing and integrating the many uses of the countryside, from farming and forestry to walking and education, is a major goal of
countryside management.
Countryside Management Projects (CMPs) like the KSCP,
have mainly been created through the partnership of local authorities with
other organisations such as The Countryside Agency, The Environment Agency or commercial
interests. Other CMPs
