BRABOURNE
Hampton Alders
Coppicing of willow and clearance of scrub by KSCP
volunteers on this Site of Special Scientific Interest (part of Wye and
Crundale SSSI) took place in the spring of 2001. Alder Carr is an uncommon
woodland type today as alder favours the wet soils of valley floodplains,
and these soils once drained are very productive for agriculture, leading
to most floodplain woods being replaced by agriculture. KSCP volunteers
worked here in 1995 and 1996. The site is also known as Hoggs Wood.
Penstock Hall
In 1997 the KSCP gave a small amount of advice for a
successful Countryside Stewardship agreement that included work on ponds.
