The Ashford Green Corridors includes the
floodplains of the Great Stour, East Stour and Aylesford Stream that have
not been developed within Ashford. The Green Corridors are vitally
important as they allow wildlife to co-exist in an urban environment and
they provide a green lung for people through the rapidly developing town.
The KSCP are skilled in identifying opportunities for
wildlife management and a number of practical conservation projects will
be running in the Ashford Green Corridors in the near future – we hope
some of the local residents will take part. However, we would like to hear
from you if you have any other ideas related to your river and parks.
These might include historical studies, art, educational activities,
recreational pursuits etc. We might be able to help to implement your
idea.
Events for 2003 are currently being planned. Volunteer
practical conservation tasks will occur twice per month at a variety of
locations in the Green Corridors (please telephone for details). In
addition 2 one day courses to study amphibian and reptile surveying have
been arranged for 1st March and the 4th May
respectively and survey days with a local amphibian and reptile expert
have also been arranged (please telephone for details). We also hope to
run activities for children during the holiday periods.
However, don’t just think about contacting the KSCP if
you have an idea, ….do it!
Stop Press…. Parts of the Ashford Green Corridors
have just been designated as a Local Nature Reserve – the first Town
centre LNR based on a river in the country!
